FIFA Bans Former Gambia FA Boss

The world governing of football, FIFA has announced the banning of former Gambia Football Federation chairman Seedy Kinteh for four years after he was found guilty of corruption.

Seedy Kintech was facing corruption charges after being named in an investigation report in 2014 for receiving bribes from former presidential candidate Mohamed Bin Hammam.

An investigation started in 2017 linking the Gambian official to FIFA’s presidential elections in 2011, in which Bin Hammam was suspended days before the elections after being implicated in bribing Caribbean voters

“The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Kinteh guilty of having violated art. 20 (Offering and accepting gifts and other benefits) and art. 21 (Bribery and corruption) of the 2012 edition of the Fifa Code of Ethics,” the football governing body said in an official statement.

According to the body, Kintech was suspended from all football-related activities at both national and international level for four years, in addition to being fined $200,000.

The investigation against Kinteh began on 1 March 2017 and was linked to Fifa’s presidential elections in 2011.
