The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta is still at post and has not resigned contrary to rumours that have gone viral on social media, an official government statement has said.
The statement from the Ministry of Finance, issued on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 urged the general public to ignore speculations that Ken Ofori-Atta has resigned as the Finance Minister
The buzz in town was that the Minister had submitted his resignation letter over medical reasons.
“Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is at post and focused on his mandate, given to him by His Excellency the President, to serve the people of Ghana in his capacity as Finance Minister,” the statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry said.
It added: “The Ministry wishes to assure the general public that there is no truth in these rumours. Mr Ken Ofori-Atta is at post and focused on his mandate, given to him by His Excellency the President, to serve the people of Ghana in his capacity as Finance Minister”, it explained.
The Finance Minister was away from his post for weeks in at the start of 2021 over ill health reasons.
He was flown out of the country to receive medical attention but returned later to go through a postponed Parliamentary vetting for his nomination as Finance Minister to be approved.
