Fire guts 2-bedroom apartment …suspected arsonist arrested
A TWO bedroom apartment at Fankyenebra near Santasi in Kumasi has been totally gutted by an early morning inferno, last Saturday.
The inhabitant of the apartment, Yaw Aboagye was not around when the fire, which travelled at top speed, started and destroyed his personal items.
People who witnessed the fire outbreak have accused one Kwaku Nyantakyi, who lives in a different room in the same house, of intentionally starting the fire.
According to eyewitnesses reports, which has since been reported to the police, Nyantakyi behaved strangely when the apartment was burning.
A police document sighted by THE NEW PUBLISHER, said Aboagye reported the case to the police for onward arrest of Nyantakyi for questioning.
“On receipt of the complaint, police proceeded to the scene and found the aforementioned apartment consumed by fire.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the personal belongings of the complainant were destroyed before the fire was brought down by a team of Ghana National Fire Service personnel from KATH.
“The complainant suspected that one Kwaku Nyantakyi who has been sharing a room with his cousin in the house caused the unlawful damage”, part of the police report said.
“He was not at the residence at the time of the outbreak, the complainant based his suspicion on the information received from his neighbors on the behaviour of Kwaku Nyantakyi during the fire outbreak.
“Suspect Kwaku Nyantayi has been arrested and detained to assist in the investigation”, the police concluded that “a possible arson case is being investigated by the police”.
