A family of four have been killed in fire outbreak that enveloped their residence at Manso Aponapon in the Ashanti Region around 11 PM last Saturday, The New Publisher has gathered.
The father of the house, 48-year-old Kofi Owusu, his pregnant wife 38-year-old Esther Cobbina and their two children aged 5 and 8 were all burnt to death
The four were asleep with the fire reportedly started from one of the rooms and it spread fast, consuming everything it encountered.
Some four other tenants of the house however escaped but suffered severe burns. They have been admitted to the St. Martins Hospital at Agroyesum receiving treatment.
The cause of the fire is not immediately known but a police situation reports (SITREP) said fire fighters did a yeoman’s job to quench the fire from causing further havoc in the house.
It said the charred bodies of the dead persons were placed in a morgue. The injured were also being treated.
The police report indicated that efforts were being made by the fire fighters to unearth what caused the inferno.
The Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for the area, Mr. Edward Oduro Nsiah, told Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah that eight people were in the house but four were able to escape during the fire outbreak. The entire eight-room apartment, he said, was burnt by the blaze.
