OWNERS OF 15 stores, at Suame Magazine in Kumasi have lost their source of livelihood after an inferno burnt their shops into ashes on Saturday.
The fire, according to eye witnesses, started around 10:30pm and it completely destroyed the 15 stores and the items that were stored in them within some few minutes.
The items destroyed by the fast-moving fire include gallons of engine oil, car spare parts, food items among other expensive items.
The fire was so severe that it could have spread and cause further havoc but the efforts of fire fighters, helped to save others stores from being gutted.
An eye witness said around 10:30pm, when the entire place was very quiet, they saw a thick smoke emanating from the area so they became alarmed.
He disclosed that they quickly rushed to the place to check what was amiss but before they could do anything, the smoke suddenly turned into a wild and fast spreading fire.
The eye witness said a distress call was placed to the office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who quickly sent their men to the scene.
He disclosed that the fire fighters used three of their fire tankers before they could douse the blaze, which also burnt some vehicles at the scene.
