First Lady Arrives in China
The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has arrived in Beijing, China for an eight-day official visit.
She was met on arrival by Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Ambassador Edward Boateng and other government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The First Lady, who is leading a delegation of women entrepreneurs and members of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), will also visit Hong Kong as part of the trip.
Welcoming her at the Beijing Airport, Mr Boateng expressed the delight of the embassy and the Ghanaian community in China for honouring them with her visit. He commended her for the initiative to lead businesswomen to seek for business and investment as a way of empowering more women to be business owners back home.
Mr Boateng said China abounds with a lot of businesses which Ghanaians could benefit from therefore assured the First Lady that he and his team had planned arrangements to meet the needs and expectations of the visiting business women and entrepreneurs.
He also had a meeting with the businesswomen at the Kunlun Hotel and briefed them on some prior engagements with prospective investors in the extractive and manufacturing industries in the light of their visit.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo also expressed her appreciation to the Chinese government for the warm reception accorded her and her delegation.
The First Lady is accompanied by the Minister of state for Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, Vice President of AGI, Mr. Humphrey Kwasi Darke, the Director of the Crop Research Institute (CRI), Dr. Stella A. Ennin, Mrs Janet Abobiyu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Unijay Company Limited, Madam Comfort Agyekum, Businesswoman and Madam Ama Atwena Amankwaah, CEO Creatline Senses.
Later in the evening, the women entrepreneurs had the opportunity of meeting members of the China -Asia Economic Association Committee.
