First Lady Celebrates Early Christmas with “Sick” Children

The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has joined children on admission at the Princess Marie Louise Hospital, popularly known as the Children’s Hospital, to celebrate early Christmas.

She feted and distributed to them and their mothers assorted gifts – bags of rice, biscuits, soft drinks and toiletry.

The staff of the facility would not be left out and were also rewarded for their dedicated service to humanity.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo said “I am hopeful that the time spent together today will mark the beginning of a wonderful Christmas celebration which will leave behind memories of love, laughter and togetherness.”

She added that Christmas was the best opportunity to create wonderful memories for children.

She labelled the period as “a magical time filled with laughter, food and drinks, and a time to show the children how much we love them”.

She applauded the board, management, staff and the many sponsors for their invaluable contribution and sacrifices they continued to make to bring healing to the sick.

The First Lady had earlier toured the wards of the hospital, where she interacted with the staff, the sick children and their mothers.

She comforted the in-patients, prayed and wished them speedy recovery.

The Reverend Father Andrew Campbell, a Patron of the Children’s Hospital, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her strong support to thefacility, recalling her visit, same period, last year.

He reminded parents to make conscious effort to spend quality time with their children in order to know and groom them better.

He said recent reported violence among the youth in some of educational institutions and other parts of the country could largely be attributed to the lack of parental guidance.

A side-attraction of the event was “Papa Bronya”- Santa Claus, who distributed various gifts to the children.
