Five Lotto Fraudsters Busted At Tafo Pankrono
The Tafo Pankrono Police have arrested five suspects who have been defrauding innocent people under the pretext of giving them accurate lotto numbers to stake for a fee.
The suspects also, allegedly, collect huge sums of monies from unsuspecting people, with a firm promise of doubling the monies for them, but end up not fulfilling their promise.
They are Karim Mohammed, 33, a trader, Yaw Baffoe, 31, businessman, Kwaku Yeboah, 31, businessman, Nana Kwadwo, 31, a mason and Daniel Oppong, 20, an electrician.
Addressing the media, ASP Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Unit, said the police, acting upon a tip-off, rounded the suspects up at their hideout in a hotel room as they advertised their non-existence services on social media.
“The suspects charged their clients between GH¢50 to GH¢1,000 before giving out the ‘lotto numbers’ to them to stake. They also collect monies from people under the pretext of doubling it for them”.
ASP Ahianyo noted that the suspects usually receive the money from their victims through mobile money payment plan, “and they afterwards discard their phone chips to avert being traced”.
He said the Police retrieved 23 cell phones, one laptop, a cash of GH¢2,620 and a Toyota vehicle, with registration number AW 8453-25, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
