The Ghana Police Service has finally cleared campaigners of the #FixTheConutry movement to go ahead with their protest on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
It follows a successful meeting held on Monday, July 19, 2021, between the police administration and the convenors.
“The police are poised to provide the necessary security for the safety of the planned procession of members of the #FixTheCountry movement on Wednesday 4th August 2021”, the police said in a statement posted on its social media handle.
Among the issues discussed were the route for the demonstration and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The police and convenors will continue to deliberate,” the statement added.
An Accra High Court in May this year dismissed an application from the police restraining the group from embarking on the demonstration.
The court presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey on Friday [June 25, 2021] ruled that the application was moot since the date for the protest, May 9, was belated.
The protest march that will first occur in Accra’s principal streets will begin at the Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and end at the Blackstar Square, Accra.
The Conveners, in a press statement, stated that persons coming for the protest are to assemble at Obra Spot at 6:30 am. The march will commence at 8:00 am.
“The protest march will go through the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, to Farisco Traffic Lights. We will then take a left towards TUC, then continue on the road leading past Kinbu Senior High School to join the John Evans Atta Mills High Street.
“We will then proceed to Independence Square, where the Crowd will be addressed and subsequently dispersed. Obra spot (Circle) — Farisco Left — TUC — Kinbu Senior High School – Centre for National Culture – to Independence Square.
The added that “We expect the crowd to start dispersing around 2 pm after they have been addressed at the Independence Square.”
Meanwhile, all protestors are advised to adhere to all public health protocols.
