Forestry Commission Employs 15,000
15,000 Ghanaian youth would be employed by the Forestry Commission in the coming weeks, it has been announced.
Some of the 15,000 newly recruits, would be trained to act as forest guards, so that the forest would be protected from possible intruders.
The remaining number of the recruits would also be tasked to help in the planting for trees to help revive the fast draining forest in the country.
The move by the Forestry Commission is also in line with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s promise to provide jobs for the youth.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka ‘Sir John’ the CEO of Forestry Commission, made the disclosure during a visit to the Apamprama Forest at Koboro in the Amansie Central District.
The Apamprama Forest, like other forest reserves in the country, has suffered heavy depletion due to the activities of illegal miners and chain saw operators.
The Forestry Commission has therefore decided to cover all the death-trap mining pits, left behind by illegal miners, to prevent disaster.
Sir John disclosed that all the forests in the country, which were hit by death-trap mining pits, created by illegal miners would also be covered.
“We want to cover all the mining pits in the forests so as to preserve the lives of the people and that is why we are employing 15,000 people.
“Some of the youth would serve as forest guards, whilst some of them would also work to plant trees to help revive the almost dead forest in the country”.
