Former Ashanti Regional Minister Confirmed dead

Former Ashanti Regional Minister under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, Peter Anarfi Mensah has been reported dead.

Reports indicates, Mr Anarfi Mensah was involved in a vehicle accident and was on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi where he died Monday August 20, 2018.

The corpse has since been deposited at the morgue of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital pending an autopsy.

The former Minister has been on admission at the hospital for the past two weeks after he was accidentally hit by his own car at his private residence in Kumasi. Mr. Anarfi-Mensah suffered serious injuries because the vehicle trapped him for a considerable period before he was rescued.

Last week, the former President, Jerry John Rawlings, visited him at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The former Minister expressed his gratitude to the former President and his delegation and stated that he was responding positively to treatment.

His death comes barely 48-hours after the former United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Kofi Attah Annan, died at a Swiss hospital, aged, 80.

Brief History

Late Peter Anarfi-Mensah was the Headmaster of the Tepa Senior High School in the Region.

Mr Anerfi-Mensah served as the Regional Minister from March 16, 2015 until the National Democratic Congress (NDC) left office in 2016.

Mr Anarfi-Mensah might not be a household name in national politics but he was a strong NDC member in the Ashanti Region.

He came in at a period when the NDC was going through some crisis in the Ashanti Region that led to the dismissal of the Regional Minister and his Deputy, Samuel Sarpong and Joseph Yaminn, respectively.
