Former Bayern Munich Coach Wants To Head Black Stars

Former Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath has expressed interest in the Ghana job after it became vacant following the sacking of Chris Hughton, as confirmed exclusively by Ghanasoccernet.com.

The Irish-Ghanaian coach faced termination following Ghana’s lackluster showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they bowed out prematurely during the group stage in Cote d’Ivoire.

Despite being four-time African champions, the team displayed a notable lack of inspiration throughout their three group matches. Their ultimate downfall unfolded in the last group game, even though they were winning by two goals, they messed up in the final moments and ended up with a 2-2 draw. This mistake made them leave the tournament.

The disappointing outcome prompted the dismissal of the coach, underscoring the magnitude of the team’s underwhelming performance. The termination reflects the heightened expectations and the collective disappointment of fans and stakeholders in the aftermath of Ghana’s early exit from the prestigious football competition.

Due to the team’s bad performance, Hughton got fired. Right away, a search committee was set up to find someone new for the job. Magath might be the next coach, as his agent, Vukoja Josip, mentioned that he’s interested in the position.

“Felix Magath has a great interest in the Ghana national team,” Vukoja Josip told Ghanasoccernet in an exclusive conversation.

At the age of 70, Magath brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record, aligning with the requirements set by the Ghana FA in their quest for a new coach.

Having excelled as a footballer, winning three Bundesliga titles, European Cup, UEFA European Championship, and earning two World Cup silver medals, Magath smoothly transitioned into coaching.

His coaching achievements include a successful tenure at Bayern Munich, where he secured two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal trophies. Additionally, he clinched the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and received the German Football Manager of the Year award three times.

The GFA has set a deadline of three weeks for the search committee to find a suitable replacement for Hughton, and Magath could be a strong contender given his impressive resume.

The Black Stars are in need of a fresh start, and Magath’s reputation as a no-nonsense coach could be just what the team needs to get the best out of its talented players.
