The mortal remains of Hajia Ramatu Mahama, wife of former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, also of blessed memory, was buried beside her late husband at the family’s private resident located at Kalpohini in the Northern Region on Saturday, March 9, 2022.
The former Second Lady, Hajia Ramatu, died at age 70 last Thursday April 7 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after she was admitted on Monday April 4.
Before the body was airlifted to Tamale and then sent to Kalpohni for burial on Saturday, a state-sponsored burial service in accordance with Islamic religion was held for her at the Independence Square in Accra where many top dignitaries and members of the public paid their last respect to her
Top dignitaries sighted at the burial service include former president John Agyekum Kufuor, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo; Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Members of Parliament from both sides of the divide were also present.
Hajia Ramatu Mahama was the daughter of the late Imoro Egala, a Minister for Trade and Industry and first black chairman of COCOBOD, in the first Republic and a long-standing political stalwart in Ghana through to the third Republic; doubling as a founder of the PNP now PNC.
Her death came 10 years after her husband, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, passed on, on November 16, 2012, at age 66.
The late Hajia Ramatu Mahama left behind four children, namely; Salma Mahama, Farouk Mahama, Member of Parliament for Yendi, Fayad Mahama, and Halim Mahama.
