The Ghana Education Service(GES) says it will be releasing this year’s placement for the double track system which begins this academic calendar, as Senior High Schools(SHS) prepare to receive first-year students possibly this week.
The GES says the placement will enable prospective SHS students to know the Schools they have been posted to.
Speaking in an interview on Accra- based Joy Fm, the Director of Public relations at the GES, Cassandra Twum-Ampofo says the first badge of students are more likely to report to school next week.
“Latest by Wednesday, we would announce the release of placements into Senior High Schools. The Second year and third year students are resuming on Saturday that’s on the 8th of Septemeber, so we were hoping that at least the first years or the first track would move with the second and third on the 8th but because of the timeline, we can’t also give the parent such short notice and so if by Wednesday the list is released, it means that they will be going following week to give them some time to prepare.”Twum-Ampofo added.
Government announced plans to implement the Double Intake System for newly admitted Public Senior High School Students across the country in September 2018. The new system which is expected to reduce class sizes and increase lesson hours will address the growing population of students benefitting from the Free SHS Policy.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the 2018/2019 academic year will see a 31 percent increase in the number of students entering senior high school. Hence plans to implement the Double Intake System.
The new system is expected to cost GH₵323 million to fully implement.
