Fulani Saga: Committee to Tour West Africa for Solutions

Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee is scheduled to tour some countries in the West African sub-region with the objective of finding a permanent solution to the Fulani menace in some parts of the country.

This tour is expected to afford the committee an opportunity to understudy best practices adopted in dealing with the menace in those countries.

Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, Seth Kwame Acheampong, made this known on Thursday, 1 February, when he addressed the House on their investigations into the Fulani menace in the country.

According to him, the committee found out that Ghana is not the only country faced with the Fulani herdsmen challenge in the sub-region.

“In consultation with leadership, it became imminent that the committee will have to step out of the country and go to countries like La Côte d’Ivoire, which is similarly going through the same problem, neighbouring Burkina Faso and Nigeria,” he said.

He indicated that pending approval, a team of eight individuals will embark on the tour to find out best practices and report back to complement preliminary work done by the committee.
