Gabby hints on Ghana going for IMF bailout

A leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko also said since the indications are clear that, the controversial E-levy Bill will not be passed, there is need for government to head to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for bailout.

He made this known in a social media post on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

According to him, government plan for the COVID-19 recovery programme was hinged on the passage of the electronic levy adding that, he believes it won’t be passed by Parliament.

“2022 began without the usual $3 billion injections of Eurobond cash. Govt’s post-COVID recovery GhanaCARES programme hinged partly on an E-levy which Parliament may not even OK. There should be a national debate: do we want IMF or E-Levy or both or none? Tough decisions confront Ghana”, he tweeted.

In other development, President Akufo-Addo together with all NPP MPs, ministers, government appointees, and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership are locked up in a crucial meeting at the Peduase Lodge to find solutions to the raging economic challenges and also discuss if government should continue to push through with the E-levy Bill or resort to the IMF bailout.

According to Joy News report, the crunch meeting started from Thursday, March 17, and is expected to end on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
