Gals World Storms Volta with Second ‘Red Tour’
A group calling itself, the Golden Age Ladies (GALS) has stormed the Volta Region with a life-changing initiative dubbed the “Red Tour” which aims at educating teenage girls on menstrual health and management.
The team took the ‘Red Tour’ to eight schools in the North Tongu District in the Volta Region.
The tour also aims at reducing the upsurge of teenage pregnancy among young girls.
This initiative, aside teaching teenage girls on menstrual health and management also creates awareness on teenage pregnancy.
The tour which started last year, put smiles on the faces of teenage girls in places visited and this year’s tour was even better.
GALs World which constitutes a group of young and intelligent Ladies, met with the Ghana Education Service’s SHEP, Mrs. Veronica Lumor who later led the GALs to the eight selected schools in the region.
According to the coordinator of Gals World, Lady Harriet Kaku, Gals World stands to achieve quality education among girls as they enjoy equal rights as boys.
“Gals World is here to help vulnerable girls to have access to basic needs through the right channel than asking men who may take advantage of them,” she said.
“We don’t stand to achieve monetary benefit, but we tend to reduce teenage pregnancy and also to prevent menstrual related diseases, this is our way of giving back to society,” Miss Kaku added.
The group also had support from Hajia Muniratu Hussein who works with MTN- Sales Division.
She donated free sanitary pads to the eight selected schools in the district.
