The VGMA 2019 nominees jam made a stop in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi. The nominees’ jam returned to the ‘Garden City’ over the weekend after seven (7) years it was staged there.
Excitement was more ahead of the Show by music fans for the long break the Nominees Jam was Staged at the Region.
The last time the VGMA Nominees Jam was held in the Ashanti Region was in 2012 with a line-up that included some of the big names in Ghanaian music; Okyeame Kwame, Buk Bak, Stay Jay, Obaapa Christy, SP Kofi Sarpong, Kwaw Kesse, among others.
Since then, the nominees party train has visited the Northern Region, Central and Western Regions, Brong Ahafo Region, Volta Region among other places.
The 2019 edition last Saturday kicked off with performances from some underground artistes and nominees for the VGMA Unsung category who did not disappoint but gave off their best to entertain hundreds of patrons who thronged the venue to have fun.
The likes of Tema rapper, Yaa Pono; Oseikrom King, Flow King Stone and other rappers also treated patrons to some rap punchlines which almost ended in a rap battle.
Kwaku Gyasi, Kumawood actor Lilwin, Hiplife/Afrobeats duo Dopenation,Highlife Songstress Adina, Afrobeats Singer Wendy Shay, Gospel Songstress Obaapa Christy and many others gave the patrons at the venue an exciting Performance.
Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale then came on stage to thrill the patrons to some of his Hit Singles like My Level, Thunder Fire, Island, Bullet Proof among others. Before ending his Performance, The SM Boss paused and reminded the crowd about how long it had been since he won a big award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
”As you are clapping for me and enjoying the Performance, make sure you are voting, vote for me so that I can come back to Kumasi and play a show for you, vote for me so that we can celebrate.” – he said.
According to the MY LEVEL hitmaker who is in competition with Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, Kuami Eugene and King Promise for the topmost award at the 2019 VGMAs, the fans should vote more for him to Win.
“It’s been long since we won Artiste of the Year and it won’t be bad if we win it again hands down,” he added.
The Top Skanka Hitmaker and Bhimnation President, Stonebwoy closed the Show with an electrifying performances as patrons at the venue sang along. He treated patrons to one hit after the other as they partied the night away till the early hours of Sunday, April 7.
The main awards for the VGMA has been scheduled for May 18 but the Organizers, Charterhouse are yet to state the venue for the event, which is in its 20th year.
The 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Nominees Jam is produced by events giants Charterhouse with support from Media General, Yfm, DSTV, KPMG and Graphic Showbiz.
