On Monday December 5, 2022 Global Appreciation and Skills Training Network (GASTRAN); an Accra based registered NGO and UN ECOSOC accredited embarked on a planned donation and sensitization projects at Awutu Osae Krodua and Awutu Ayeresu.
The communities, remotely located about 55km off Kasoa to Bawjiase are in the Awutu Senya West of the Central region of Ghana. The two communities with much subsistence on gari making; largely by women and most other youths are engaged in ‘Okada’ – commercial motor bike transportation activities.
GASTRAN was set up by like-minded individuals with various backgrounds who believe in volunteering to liaise with other global charitable institutions to identify, appreciate and recognize the daily sacrifices some individuals make to raise the standard of living of people; especially the vulnerable and communities through the provision of skills development, training and decent livelihoods.
The project, coinciding with the International Volunteers Day was targeted mainly at single parents with much emphasis on women. They were sensitized on effective living, community health and hygiene, social collectivism and this was aimed at helping raise their senses of community. Such self- help will create in the community the need to organize and see how best they can address some of their needs if not all before help from local government or other organizations arrive.
Through the partnership of Sunda International- an organization in the production of toiletries and several forms of soap; GASTRAN was able to donate items ranging from mosquito nets, detergents, toilet papers, bathing soap, mosquito coils, etc. to about one hundred and fifty individuals.
The Assembly man of the area; thus Honourables Nathaniel Asamoah who co-operated with GASTRAN in organizing the communities expressed his satisfaction of the gesture and posited the need for this to continue to help break reliance. The Awutu Osae Krodua and Awutu Ayeresu communities; like many other communities of such nature in Ghana are confronted with bad roads, drinking from dugout, unhygienic place of convenience etc.
Some of GASTRAN team members who were volunteering on the day were Mr Albert Larbie (President/CEO), Mr Richard K. B. Eyiah (PR/HRO), Mr Umar Moro Kamatey (Director of Operations) and Mr Samuel Amofa (Secretary/Head of IT).
On the same day, GASTRAN launched its other project ‘The Cloths Bank’ which is aimed at mobilizing spare clothes or new clothes and other basic necessities from others or organizations and channelling them to those who need them most timely. Global Appreciation and Skills Training Network (GASTRAN) is by this inviting the general public in joining hands through every form of donations by getting in touch through our website https://globalappreciationnetwork.org
GASTRAN remains resolute in monitoring the impacts of the project in Awutu Osae Krodua and Awutu Ayeresu in order to evaluate how best to align future projects there; based on a need assessment by project co-ordinators. Hopefully, such projects will go a long way in alleviating the plights of the vulnerable in our societies through a right partnership that is aimed at having a sustainable world everyone can live freely and harmoniously.
