Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has issued a response following the dismissal of his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the GFA.
Afriyie’s disqualification stemmed from his failure to garner enough signatures from GFA members in support of his candidacy when submitting his nomination form.
Despite his appeal, the GFA’s Elections Committee’s decision to disqualify him was upheld by the Appeals Committee, prompting Afriyie to pursue the matter beyond the GFA’s jurisdiction.
The ruling, which was communicated on May 6th, came nearly eight months after Afriyie filed his appeal with CAS. The 2023 GFA Elections took place on October 5th in Tamale, where the incumbent GFA President, Kurt Okraku, secured 117 out of 120 votes.
In response to the news, George Afriyie stated, “The CAS, in their decision, have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA. I take the decision in good faith.”

May 6, 2024.
I have today received the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) regarding my appeal against the Decision of the Elections Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The CAS, in their decision, have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA.
I take the decision in good faith. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period.
