GES Warns Headteachers On Registering Ineligible Candidates

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned the Heads of both public and private basic schools to desist from registering ineligible candidates to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).

The Management of the Ghana Education Service noted that registration of candidates for the BECE is strictly for students in the Junior High School Form Three only.

According to a statement issued and signed by the Ag. Director-General, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, students in the junior high school form one and form two as well as candidates who want to re-sit are ineligible to register for the BECE.

The statement further tells that no headteacher can register students from another school without proper transfer documents and advised all students who want to re-sit to do so via the Private BECE.

“By this letter, Regional and Metro/Municipal/District Directors of the Education are to ensure that heads of basic schools strictly comply with the above directives. Any headteacher found to have gone contrary to the directives will be severely sanctioned by Management,” the statement concludes.
