GFA bans AshGold from football activities
Ghanaian football club, Ashanti Gold Sporting Club popularly known as AshGold have been indefinitely suspended with immediate effect by Ghana Football Association (GFA), from all football competitions.
The Associations’ decision was taken due to the banning of AshantiGold SC President, Dr. Kwaku Frimpong as well as the Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Frimpong, from all football-related activities for the next ten years with a heavy fine and 96-month ban, respectively, by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association [GFA].
The father and son were banned for engaging in match manipulations, including Inter Allies FC, on a fixed match played on Saturday, July 21, 2021 at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium where they won 7- 0.
Ashanti Gold SC’s suspension from the Ghana Football Association was announced and confirmed at GFA’s 29th Ordinary Congress on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Great Hall of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi; where 67 members of the GFA voted in favour of the suspension, with 17 voting against it.
The suspension of AshantiGold SC emphasises that the Obuasi-based club shall lose all membership rights and that the club cannot play in any football competition, including but not limited to the Ashanti Regional Football Association Division Two League.
The decision to sustain the suspension of Ashgold SC is a clear indication of the GFA’s commitment to maintaining integrity in Ghanaian football.
