The Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, is set to construct a 40-bed accommodation facility at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The project, which forms part of a broader plan to upgrade the facility to meet international standards, is expected to significantly enhance the infrastructure for Ghana’s national teams.
On August 26, 2024, the sod-cutting ceremony was performed by President Simeon-Okraku, supported by members of the Executive Council, Congress delegates, and former GFA officials, including ex-Vice-Chairman Fred Pappoe and former General Secretary Emmanuel Gyimah.
The new accommodation facility has been described by the GFA as a crucial step towards positioning the centre as a leading hub for football development in Africa and the world.
Funded in part by the government through the 2022 World Cup allocation, the project aims to create a professional environment that will serve the national teams and contribute to the growth of football in Ghana.
President Simeon-Okraku expressed his gratitude to the government for its financial support and to the Executive Council and Congress for backing the initiative. He emphasized that the project will be completed to the highest standards, and that it represents a major forward step for Ghanaian football.
Additional improvements to the centre will include the installation of floodlights at the AstroTurf, the construction of top-quality natural grass pitches, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a Futsal Arena.
These enhancements underscore the GFA’s commitment to bolstering football infrastructure and providing top-tier facilities for training and development.
Since its establishment, the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence has played a vital role as the training and camping base for many of Ghana’s national teams. The planned upgrades are expected to further solidify its importance in nurturing football talent and advancing the sport at the national level.
