Akwasi Ossei Nkrumah, a whistleblower who describes himself as a sports enthusiast and advocate for social and community development through sports, has petitioned the Investigative Chamber of the Ethics Committee of football’s world governing body, FIFA, to investigate Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku.
In a letter addressed to the FIFA Committee on July 6, 2023, Nkrumah, complained about several breaches made by the GFA President during his time in office.
The petition was filed on four grounds of alleged breaches by the GFA President namely, Forgery and Falsification, Conflicts of Interest, Abuse of Position, Duty of Loyalty and Manipulation of Football Matches or Competitions.
On the grounds of Forgery and Falsification, the petition alleges the GFA President has used Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku and Kurt Simeon-Okraku in various official capacities to sign official documents and represent the Ghana Football Association.
On the grounds of Conflicts of Interest, the petition pointed to the appointment of close associates or Related Parties of the GFA President to occupy sensitive positions in the Ghanaian football hierarchy since his election as President.
In a section of the petition, Nkrumah calls on FIFA’s Ethics Committee to “thoroughly investigate the matters raised without fear or favour and pronounce the appropriate sanctions”.
Nkrumah went on to call for the GFA President to be suspended temporarily in the course of the investigation. The petition comes mere months to the GFA’s elections slated for October.
