A military officer from the Ghana Air Force tragically passed away after collapsing during the 67th Independence anniversary celebrations in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
Alongside 66 others, he received immediate medical attention from on-site doctors during the parade.
Subsequently, eight individuals were transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for further treatment. Sources from the Eastern Regional Hospital and the Regional Ambulance Service confirmed the officer’s health deteriorated, leading to his demise.
Expressing deep sorrow, the Local Organizing Committee conveyed condolences and assured the public of efforts to inform the military high command about this loss. Meanwhile, at the Tamale Jubilee Park on the same day, a total of 72 people collapsed during the Independence Parade. Among them were students, service personnel, and soldiers, suffering from severe dehydration due to the harsh weather conditions.
The prolonged exposure to the scorching sun is believed to have contributed to their collapse. As part of the paramedic staff providing first aid at the regional parade, Yakubu Amin Abukari, the northern regional boss of the Ghana Red Cross Society, mentioned that all 72 individuals were successfully resuscitated.
