Ghana is at the 13th edition of the annual “Salon International Agriculture Fair of Morocco, (SIAM) 2018 in Meknes, Morocco to market its cocoa, coffee and shea nut products in that country.
Ghana is being represented at the exhibition by the Ghana Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), Ghana Produce Buying Company (PBC) and the Plantation Resources Ltd, a private cocoa, coffee, palm oil producing company.
In the Ghana stand are a variety of chocolates and other array of newly added brands of chocolate and pebbles and other cocoa products.
Other products are coffee beans and grounded coffee as well as shea nuts and shea butter.
The 2018 edition of the annual exhibition brings together the business community in the agricultural sector both in Africa and other countries to showcase their cutting edge technology and to create a platform for interaction and sharing of best practices.
The fair, which was officially opened by the Prince of the Kingdom of Morroco, Prince Moulay Hassan, is being participated by 1,400 exhibitors from 67 countries with more than 850,000 visitors expected to visit the five-day fair.
The SIAM, through its role as a platform for exchanging ideas, networking and exhibiting the latest agricultural technology, forms part of the development strategy of the Moroccan agriculture.
Ghana is hoping to attract the over 35 million Moroccan population with her processed cocoa, coffee, shea nut products.
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto who is attending the fair as leader of the Ghana government delegation was hopeful to get the Moroccan business community to take orders of the three commodities to sell in their market.
He said Morocco was a potential market for Ghana’s processed cocoa products such as chocolate, roasted ground coffee and processed shea nuts and, therefore, invited that country’s business community to patronise the products.
Dr Akoto explained that over 100 years since Ghana started producing cocoa, it had been exporting the raw cocoa beans.
“The new government in Ghana led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has decided that instead of selling beans to the world, we would add value to it so that we get more proceeds from cocoa,” he said, adding that Ghana was looking at entering the Moroccan market with its variety of chocolate, processed coffee and shea nuts.
