The anticipation for Ghanaian musicians to win a Grammy Award since it’s inception sixty years ago keeps growing each year the nominations list is released.
Some artistes such as Fuse ODG and Killbeatz got mentioned for their contributions in co-writing and producing Ed Sheeran’s album which won Best Pop Vocal Album.
The closest to winning the award is reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni who was nominated in the category of ‘Reggae Album’ in 2015.
Since then, the hope to win the prestigious award has been kept alive. But some artistes believe Ghana is not as close to winning this award as is believed.
One of such persons is Lynx Entertainment signee, KiDi, born Dennis Nana Dwamena
Speaking on Ghanaweekend TV, he said Ghana does not have international recognition to get the attention of the organizers of Grammys.
“We’re not close. We’re not. I mean that’s the truth. We’ll like to be close but we have a lot of work to do” he pointed. One of our challenges is getting a presence internationally. Getting to make a statement out there.
”We need to start to fix some internal issues and when we go out there we need to make a presence. It’s a step by step thing. So, we will get there but I don’t think as at now we’re close. We have work to do” he said.
He is an old student of Accra Academy and completed the University of Ghana. He looks up to people like Justin Timberlake, Kojo Antwi, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars and Usher. KiDi won the Highlife Song of the Year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
