Ghana has been named as host of the next African Athletics Championship.
The 2026 Championship will be held in Ghana with the University of Ghana Stadium in line to serve as the host venue for the competition.
The confirmation of Ghana’s hosting bid success was communicated by Ghana Athletics in a statement released on the federation’s X (formerly) Twitter page.
The Confederation of African Athletics named Ghana as host nation for the next edition after accepting Ghana’s bid.
Ghana’s bidding team had National Sports Authority Deputy General Bawa Majid, Ghana Athletics President Bawa Fuseini and Ghana Athletics Vice President Charles Osei Asibey on it.
This development comes in the lead up to Ghana’s participation in this year’s African Athletics Championship that runs from June 20 to June 26 in Douala, Cameroon.
Ghana’s contingent is made up of 18 athletes headlined by 2024 Paris Olympic Games bound high jumper Rose Yeboah and 100 Metre sprinters Fuseini Ibrahim and Isaac Botsio.
The event also serves as a qualifier to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
