Ghana should legalize marijuana – Casely Hayford
A member of pressure group, Occupy Ghana Sydney Casely Hayford has mooted the idea of legalising marijuana in Ghana.
Marijuana, also known as ‘cannabis’, ‘wee’ and indian hemp’, is widely used in Ghana, despite it being banned.
”Recently Uganda signed a contract with Canada to export marijuana for high income. I have said it on several times, let’s legalize the marijuana thing because what has been portrayed as the effect of marijuana is not the reality today.” he said on The Big Issue on Saturday.
According to him, what many knew then has been modified significantly at the moment making it good for legalization in the aspect of profit making.
He is certain legalising marijuana, like some states in the U.S have done will help to regulate its use and reap huge profits.
According to him, regulation of marijuana use is a headache which we must tackle as a country.
He described the fear of international condemnation as akin to “the ostrich hiding his head in the sand” because marijuana is everywhere you go.
His comment comes after Uganda last week secured a contract to export medical marijuana products to Canada and Germany worth more than $140 million in June.
