Ghana To Host AFCON 2019 – Isaac Asiamah

Hon. Isaac Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports has disclosed the readiness of Ghana to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) should the Confederation Of African Football give Ghana the nod as host.

According to him, the Government of Ghana will accept the right to welcome other African countries to Ghana provided CAF turn the power to the country, adding that, Ghana is interested in hosting next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the progress of work at the Youth Resource Center (Koforidua Sports Stadium) in the Eastern Region, Mr Isaac Asiamah said he is confident Ghana has all the necessary requirements and facilities to host the rest of the continent in 2019.

We handled a wonderful tournament with the Women’s AFCON,” he said.

“Ghana stands a good chance to host any CAF organised tournament. We are ready. Even if CAF says we should host the Cameroon one, we are ever ready.

“Maybe they will say we have become too greedy because we just hosted one, but if the chance comes, I can confidently tell you that Ghana is ready,” he added.

Cameron were denied hosting following chaos and late development in infrastructure to stage 24-countries. Leading to an extraordinary executive committee meeting in Ghana, Accra, lasting almost 10 hours last Friday. 

The tournament is scheduled to take place in a new host country from June 13 to July 15 of  next year. However, South Africa, Egypt and Morocco stands the chance to winning the hosting right.
