Ghana has weak security system – Kweku Baako
Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said the continuous sub culture of freeing party members in various violence in respect to electoral offenses has set a bad target for the country’s security system.
Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kweku Baako said political parties interfering in the procedure of their members caught in political violence by the police service has brought about the continuation of the bad deeds.
According to him, it’s about time such people caught in the act are punished, jailed if there are enough evidence in order to serve as a deterrent to others.
“We have the experience already of few electoral violence in the country so in that case, it’s a bit easy to be solved but my issue has to do with onething, in many instances, I see few reports of arrest and prosecution but I don’t ever remember those arrests ending in conviction and sentence of the perpetrators and that should be significant. If you even look in totality, it’s not that impactful and that is my worry.
“In the just ended registration, we had some few pocket of violence, it was not the first time but we did. I feel the enforcement of the electoral laws and the national laws are that weak. It’s part of the reason these several impunity are happening. Let’s close our eyes sometimes to the party colours of the perpetrators, they should be sent to court, jailed and sentence for their unlawful acts, it’s very important and I say this in all political divides, I say it across the various administrations, it’s almost like a subculture”
He added, “Those perpetrators should be charged, they should be sent to the High courts. Let them face trial and if the evidence is sustained, jail them according to law. Look, it’s very very important. We have to wake up on those things.”
