Mr. Boye Laryea, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) says Ghana’s peace would not be derailed by the outcome of the December 7 polls.
This he said is because Ghanaians will not fight or allow elections to divide the country even after the elections.
Mr. Laryea who was addressing Persons With Disability, (PWD’s) in the Municipality after a Peace Walk said that the things that bind the people together are more than those that separates them.
He disclosed that the Municipality and the security agencies have put in place measures to protect all the residents in the Municipality before during and after the polls.
“We have done everything, don’t be scared, nothing will happen; from the beginning of the Fourth Republic, elections in Okaikwei North have been generally peaceful” the ONMA MCE noted.
This election is about Ghana, he continued saying that “if you are planning to injure your neighbor, know that the other person will hit you first…”
Mr. Laryea cautioned Ghanaians to be mindful of their actions before, during and after the elections.
“Our brothers and sisters sitting here do not have any help; let’s not joke with their life. We are those who will have to help so we should not be agents of violence.”
Mrs. Vivienne Achel, the Municipal Director of the National Commission For Civic Education (NDC) in an address urged the PWD’s not to tease losers in the polls.
Gabriel Sarfo, Chairman of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled in the Municipality said the political parties must have them in mind in all their actions and safeguard Ghana’s peace.
Earlier, the PWD’s marched through some principal streets in the municipality to push for peace even after the polls.
They carried placards some of which read: “Ghana Is A Land Of Peace; I Am A PWD, I Stand For Peace; Ghana Is Greater Than All Political Parties; Give Ghana Peace; ACP, GCPP, NPP, We Are All One People; Don’t Fight Your Brother For Political Interest; Election 2020, Peace Not War; and PWD Youth for Peace And Development.”
