Giant Leap for Agriculture in Ho West

Agriculture is expected to receive a big boost in the Ho West District of the Volta Region over the next few years, following a significant intervention by a citizen of the area.

Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzidulali Danku, a businessman, had, aside the seasonal supply of agro inputs like fertilizers, weed killers and spraying machines to farmers, procured a tractor for donation to the district.

The tractor will be placed at the disposal of farmers in the district, and managed by a committee made up of key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

These came to light when a delegation from Abutia-Kpota led by Mr. David Segbe, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the community’s Development Committee, called on Mr. Danku in his office in Ho over the weekend.

The visit was to convey the appreciation of the entire community to the businessman for his priceless contribution to the development of the area.

It came on the heels of this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration at Kissiflui, another suburb of Abutia, where it was first announced that Mr. Danku had procured a farm tractor for donation to the district.

Mr. Segbe, also known as Kojo Guy, recalled the outpouring of joy that greeted the announcement in respect of tractor donation at the Farmers’ Day Durbar, adding that such a phenomenal gesture was unprecedented in the history of the area.

He was thankful to him for the number of developments projects he had extended to the area, including the grading of roads and the provision of two poly tanks to support an existing water system, among others.

For his part, Mr. Danku assured the people of massive investments in critical areas that hinge on their future development.

He said it was his desire to provide the basic structures that would propel the people of Ho West to break the chain of poverty that had accounted for their underdevelopment.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Abutia-Kpota for being the first community to honour him for his meritorious services.

Members of the delegation included Mr. Wisdom Ndewu, the Chairman of Development committee ; Mr. Simon Ativor, an NDC branch Communication Officer; Madam Janet Fianyogbe and Madam Akpene Dovi.

They later presented assorted foodstuffs and one billy goat as their token of appreciation.
