GNPC to Build New $20m Office; Ghc13m to Renovate Existing One

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has allocated $20 million for the construction of a new head office in Accra.

The petroleum corporation also plans to spend another 13.4 million cedis to renovate its existing office.

The Minority Spokesperson on Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson in an interview with Starr FM’s Ibrahim Alhassan Thursday after Parliament approved the budgetary allocation for the GNPC for its programmes in 2018 said GNPC also plans to invest 45 million dollars to acquire fish vessels.

“GNPC is saying they are going to spend 20 million dollars for the purposes of building their head office in Accra. Inspite of this, they have an existing office, they say they are spending 13.4 million cedis to renovate that office…again they are going to spend another 10 million dollars to build an operational office in Takoradi.

“They are also saying that they are going to spend almost 2 million dollars to build a transit quarters for their staff…they are going to build a clinic of 1.5million dollars. They are going ahead to invest 24 million to go into mining…they are buying fish vessels of 45 million dollars, I mean what is going on.”

Ato Forson added that GNPC is “deviating from their core mandate and I think we have to stop them.”

But the Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has justified the construction of the new office for GNPC.

According to him, NPP government managed to reduce the initial amount of 76 million dollars budgeted for the construction of its new office.
