Go and vote – Ursula admonishes electorates
Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has charged qualified Ghanaians to turn out in their numbers today, December 17 to elect their Assembly Members and Unit Committee members.
In a facebook page sighted by thepublisheronline.com, Madam Ursula Owusu noted that the district assembly concept is one of the most important contributions to the improvement of Ghana’s national governance.
According to her, national development begins at the local level adding that, the perception that Ghanaians don’t turn out to vote on election days should change.
”Do you know what your electoral area is? Who is your preferred candidate? My prediction??? Less than 40% of the electorate will show up as always. Please prove me wrong. Please go out to vote. Let us change the status quo ??????” the post reads.
The Electoral Commission (EC) says some 57,000 candidates have registered to contest the polls. Out of the figure, 18,519 are vying to become assembly members, while 38,520 want to be in the Unit Committees.
There are a total of 6,700 electoral areas and each electoral area would be represented by one assembly member.
For the Unit Committees, 33,500 are to be elected – five for every electoral area.
The EC has said all the needed materials have been deployed to all polling stations and hopes that the elections will go smoothly.
