Gold digger killed in mining pit

THE HANKERING for gold has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man at Esaase in the Amansie West District.

Solomon Zakari was said to be deep in an abandoned mining pit, digging for the precious mineral on Thursday.

Two other people, Halidu Moro and Ababil Yakubu, who accompanied Zakari, were waiting for him to bring gold.

To the shock of Halidu and Ababil, a heap of sand suddenly caved in on Zakari, who was deep in the pit then.

Halidu and Ababil managed to rescue Zakari, who was then looking very weak, and rushed him to the hospital.

Unfortunately, on the way to the Nkawie Hospital, Zakari reportedly gave up the ghost to the chagrin of his friends.

A police report sighted by THE NEW PUBLISHER, said Zakari’s lifeless body has been deposited in a morgue.

According to the police, Halidu and Ababil had, during interrogation, admitted that they were illegal miners.

The report also said pathologists were yet to perform autopsy on Zakari to confirm what really claimed his life.

It further disclosed that Halidu and Ababil were still in police custody, assisting the police in their investigations.
