Gold Sparks Shooting In Kumasi
Scores of people had to run for their lives on Wednesday, when a trigger-happy manfired series of gun shots at Ash Town, a densely-populated suburb of Kumasi, over a gold deal.
One person, whose name was given as, Nana Yaw Senya, suffered a bullet wound in the back, while the suspect, identified as Nana Asamoah, is on the run.
According to reports, Nana Asamoah, a Goldsmith, was supposed to deliver some quantities of gold to Nana Yaw Senya, but failed to do so.
Narrating the incident on radio, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional Police PRO, said someone gave raw gold to Nana Asamoah to be delivered to Nanabanyin Yaw Senya, but later, when Senya demanded the gold, Asamoah could not produce it.
He said an ensuing scuffle prompted Nana Asamoah to fire three shots, one of which hit the victim.
The police have since mounted a manhunt for the suspect, while the victim is responding to treatment at the hospital.
