The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the government’s intention to reintroduce road and bridge tolls as a means of generating revenue for road maintenance and infrastructure development.
In an official statement issued on February 6th 2025, the Ministry outlined plans to implement a modern, technologically advanced tolling system.
The new system will be designed to ensure efficiency and transparency, with the Ministry promising an open and competitive procurement process for toll collection.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to addressing current road maintenance funding challenges and ensuring the tolling system is beneficial for all stakeholders.
According to Nasir Ahmad Yartey, Head of the Public Relations Unit, the government aims to introduce a solution that improves road infrastructure and sustains future developments.

The Ministry of Roads a Highways wishes to announce to the public that the Government intends to reintroduce road and bridge toll to generate revenue for road maintenance and related matters.
To this end, the Ministry is putting together the modalities for a modern, technologically-driven toll collection system.
To achieve this objective, the Ministry will employ an open, transparent competitive cost–effective and fair procurement process.
The Ministry wishes to assure the public of its commitment to introducing a modernized system that addresses the current tolling and road maintenance funding challenges of the country.
