Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has dismissed claims that the galamsey fight is becoming a charade.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo government remains committed to the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking in an interview on Super Morning Show responding to the recent lost of galamsey excavators at some galamsey sites, he said specifically the fight has yielded results observable along various parameters.
”We learnt some of the excavators can’t be accounted for but the issue here is that, it wasn’t just a mere statement made in the air. Pro. Frimpong Boateng has gone further by inviting the Ghana Police Service to conduct a proper investigation to determine exactly where the lost excavators are.
”Ahead of that, the Ghana Police Service has arrested some persons in that regard. I think what we all as media people, civil servants need to do is to keep a keen eye on this police investigation and follow through for a descent results to explain with the facts of what has transpired.” he said.
He continued, ”I look forward, the entire government as well look forward to a good and decent work to be done by the police and that people found culpable would be dealt with to set as a lesson to others. This is to affirm the fact that, the fight against illegal mining or small scale irresponsible mining is one that the President takes with serious concern.”
