The 2019 budget read by Finance Minister stated that 10,000 officers from NABCO have been deployed to support GRA’s implementation of measures and strategies to enhance revenue mobilization.
He noted that, In particular, they will be helpful in identifying and registering potential taxpayers, collection of property rates, and follow up on debtors.
Finance Minister said the young men and women of NABCO will in the process become a pool of officers from whom the government could recruit substantive officers to support revenue mobilization.
In relation to the budget, the numbers on tax exemptions in Ghana’s economy are disturbing.
In the last eight (8) years, tax exemptions (import duty, import VAT, import NHIL, and domestic VAT) in the economy have grown from GH¢391.90 million (0.9% of GDP) in 2010 to GH¢5,269.99 million (2.6% of GDP) in 2017.
