PLANS ARE in the pipeline to construct a stadium to honour the eight colts footballers of Africa Vision Academy at Offinso, who died through road accident, recently.
The construction of the edifice, is part of government’s efforts to honour the late footballers, who had high hopes of becoming future stars but died suddenly to end their dreams.
Already, the Offinso Traditional Council, led by the Paramount Chief of Offinso, Nana Wiafe Akenten, is reported to have provided the land for the construction of the stadium.
Youth and Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, confirmed plans to construct the stadium when four out of the eight footballers were laid to rest during a mass burial at Offinso on Thursday.
According to him, the premature departure of the eight footballers had come a big blow to every Ghanaian, especially President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who loves football.
He used the solemn occasion to urged the bereaved families to muster courage and strength to face, what he described as extremely difficult moment, as their children were laid to rest.
The Youth and Sports Minister also announced that government would assist in the burial and funeral of the eight footballers, and also support the injured footballers to recuperate.
The eight footballers got perished when the mini bus they were travelling on, somersaulted and landed heavily into the Offin River. The sad incident attracted international attention.
Already bodies like FIFA and the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) have sent their message of condolences to the bereaved families and the government of Ghana over the heavy loss.
At the burial grounds were were Mark Addo, GFA Vice President, Frederick Acheampong, GFA Executive Council Member and Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director General, National Sports Authority.
