The Ghanaian government is assured that preparations underway for the senior national team, Black Stars are enough to emerge as winners for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is scheduled to happen in Qatar.
Both President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif speaking at the two-day tour by the World Cup trophy in the country said, Ghana would live up to its reputation as a football giant in Africa by winning the World Cup.
“As a football powerhouse of Africa, Ghana is hopeful and believing that Insha Allah, come November-December, we will be bringing the trophy back here to Ghana as the champions of the football family.
“We are very hopeful and we have a plan with the key stakeholders of the sports industry to put our plans together, so we have the belief that Insha Alla in December, the Stars will shine in Qatar” the Sports Minister said.
For President Akufo-Addo, he noted “”I am of the firm conviction that Ghana will not only participate in the competition but will make the whole nation and by extension the African continent proud, with a great performance”.
The President added, “I, therefore, want to urge all Ghanaians, in conclusion, to throng the Accra Polo Court to view the trophy and to be part of history, before we finally bring the cup home on 18th December. We, who were the first to gain our freedom and independence from colonial rule, will be the first to bring the World Cup to Africa.
“We have also had to wait for twelve (12) years to get revenge against Uruguay, and we assure them that, this time, the hand of Suarez will not save them against the Black Stars of Ghana. They are going down!!”.
Ghana’s Black Stars are scheduled to play Portugal on November 24, South Korea (November 28) and Uruguay (December 2) in Group H.
