Gov’t Tightens Covid-19 Inbound Flight Protocols

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says government has taken note of new waves of Covid-19 cases in some parts of the world including Europe and the US after many of them successfully slowed the initial outbreak a few months ago.

He stated that scientists have also reported that countries like France, UK and Netherlands, are dealing with what they called a much feared second wave and are beginning to take some actions to curb it.

The government, he stated, recognizes the fact that there are travellers coming into Ghana from the above mentioned countries, thereby heightening Ghana’s risks.

“At this time therefore, the Government of Ghana is going for strict observation of the inbound flight protocols that were outlined a few weeks ago when the airport was opened,” he said.

The move, he said, is to mitigate the risks that the resurgence of covid-19 cases in Europe poses to Ghana.

At the same time while doing this, he stated, government will continue to monitor developments in those countries and the developments will inform whether Ghana will impose new travel restrictions.

The inbound flight protocols include a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before coming to Ghana.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah says some 131 new cases have been recorded, adding that Ghana’s active case count has dropped to 477.

He stated that there were two new deaths, raising covid-19 deaths to 299.

Meanwhile, the Minister urged Ghanaians to observe the preventive etiquettes that have been announced since March 2020 when there was Covid-19 outbreak in Ghana.
