Gov’t Urged To Support Waste Management Companies
The Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong has called on government to support waste management companies in the country.
According to him, they have the capacity and the technical knowhow in Ghana to solve any waste management challenges, hence the need for government to support them.
The Zoomlion boss made this call in his reaction to the President’s State of the Nations Address which occurred on Thursday, February 8.
The President in his State of the Nation Address, restated his commitment in ensuring Accra becomes the cleanest city in Africa, by the end his term.
He said government is working with various private sector operators to tackle the major challenge of poor sanitation in the country.
“Over the years Zoomlion and other affiliate companies have been doing their best to ensure we all live in a clean and healthy environment but we cannot do much if the government does not support those of us in the sector,” he stressed.
He mentioned that the dream of all waste management companies is to see a clean environment that would ensure the good health of the people of Ghana and thus ensure high productivity in all sectors of the economy.
Dr. Agyapong has however commended the President for focusing on the environment and reassured him of the private sectors readiness to partner government to achieve its dreams of ensuring proper sanitation in the country.
According to him, the sanitation sector needs the right policies, strict law enforcement, support and a positive attitude from government agencies and officials tasked with ensuring the sanitation needs of the country, to engender fruitful partnership with the private sector.
He further stated that the President would realize his dream of a clean and improved sanitation situation in the country by next year if the needed support is given to all sanitation sector players.
