THERE WERE sad scenes at Worakese near Asante Mampong, in the Ashanti Region on Friday after a fire outbreak burnt a 90 year old grandmother to death.
The fire, reportedly, started from one of the rooms in a five bedroom house at Worakese at dawn, forcing the people to ran helter-skelter to save their lives.
Unfortunately, Madam Adwoa Agyakoma, the 90 year old woman, who was perhaps weak due to her advanced age, could not run on time from harm’s way.
The inferno was said to have burnt the old lady and one Yaw Mensah, said to be 11 years old, killing both of them to the chagrin of the people at the scene.
The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Peter Addai, said fire fighters were called to battle the inferno.
According to him, the call to the fire fighters came a bit late so when they arrived at the place, the fire had already consumed the house and burnt two people.
DOIII Peter Addai said the fire was bent on extending to other houses and cause more damage but the fire fighters managed to quench it to avert disaster.
The GNFS PRO said the cause of the fire was still under investigations, urging house owners to install fire extinguishers in their houses and offices to fight fire.
