Graphic MD Unveiled as Pakro Nkosuohene
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Joseph Osei Owusu, Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Afiriyie Akoto, and other high-profile personalities, including journalists on Saturday joined the people of Pakro, near Nsawam, in the Eastern Region to outdoor Nana Kwaku Dei, known in private life as Ransford Tetteh, as Nkosuohene of the area.
Nana Kwaku Dei is the editor of Daily Graphic and Acting Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited.
The colorful ceremony also saw the introduction of Nana Akosua Asabea, known in private life as Mrs. Gladys Oforiwaa Ntow, as the town’s Nkosuohemea.
Nana Kwaku Dei and Nana Akosua Asabea were both installed as development chief and queen mother respectively last year by the traditional leaders.
Speaking at the introduction ceremony, the chief of the town, Nana Mensah Kuma III, appealed to government to help the community with social amenities to enhance the living standard of his people.
He said the four basic schools in the town have no ICT Center/library facilities to prepare students adequately for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The chief said although the town is in need of other facilities such as a police station, market and a community centre, he is of the view that the ICT Centre/library is most critical since it is needed to prepare the children to become useful adults in the future.
In his response, Nana Kwaku Dei thanked the people of the area and appealed to them to assist him to initiate more development activities to raise the standard of living in the town.
He bemoaned the falling standards of education in the town and asked the stakeholders in education to step up their efforts to raise the performance of school children.
Nana Dei charged teachers in the town to assist schoolchildren to score good grades in order to benefit from the NPP government’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
Over GH¢50,000 was raised in cash and pledges in an appeal for funds for the building of an ICT and Library facility for the town.
