A policy think tank, Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR) has called on President Akufo-Addo to take action on all people who played a role in the Ameri Novation Agreement.
According to the group, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, the suspended Energy Minister could not have acted alone in the deal, hence their call.
In a statement issued yesterday by Eugene Bawelle, the Executive Director of IPPR, he said “All other officials from the Ministries and Presidency found culpable in the embarrassing renegotiated deal should be dealt with appropriately. There should be no effort to shield any or some officials; appointees especially.”
This follows after the Minister of Energy was suspended following the Ameri Novation Agreement.
The agreement was seeking to buy out the deal Ameri energy had with the country which began during ex-President John Mahamas’ term in government,
The deal which was later handed to a third party, Mytilineos for 15 years, would have cost the country GH¢1 billion.
However, IPPR amongst others has called for the sanction of the officials involved in the renegotiation of the Ameri deal.
“With the huge financial commitment involved in this renegotiated deal, why did the President not consult his cabinet or Economic Management Team before giving the executive approval?” the group quizzed.
They also warned that AMERI is likely to fall back on the standby Letter of Credit in the next few months if the government delays any further in paying its outstanding debt of $82,660,560.00 to the company.
This, according to policy think tank, would have dire consequences on the power supply situation and a possible return to load shedding popularly called dumsor.
