THE CONCERNED Youth of Asante (CYA), a pressure group in Kumasi, has given President Nana Akufo-Addo one-week ultimatum to declare all physical projects he has done in Asanteman within the last four years.
The President of CYA, Nana Agyenim Boateng, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, led by President Akufo-Addo, has smartly taken Asanteman for a ride, after getting avalanche of votes from the Ashanti Region in 2016.
According to him, despite the massive votes that the NPP secured from the Ashanti Region, the government has infamously turned its back on in the region and its people during the last four years that they have been in office.
“The NPP is taking Asanteman for a ride and we are demanding that the NPP should declare the physical projects that they have undertaken in the region so far”, Nana Agyenim Boateng, demanded at a press conference.
He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not usually win a lot of votes in the Ashanti Region yet “the NDC has by far, performed better, with regards to physical developmental projects in the Ashanti Region as compared to the NPP government”.
According to him, ex-President John Mahama, during his visit to the Manhyia Palace, announced the number of landmark projects that his government introduced to better Asanteman, when he was president of only four years.
“Mr. Mahama mentioned Kejetia, hospitals, roads, markets and school projects, among others, to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as some of his projects that helped to transform Asanteman and its good people”, he said.
Gyataba therefore said “we are demanding that President Nana Akufo-Addo should also come out and state what he has done for Asanteman within the next one-week, else eve shall come out again with another press conference.
He said the Ashanti Region was retarding in growth under the President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, indicating that it was high time that the NPP was asked to give Asanteman its fair share of the national cake.
“Since 1992 till date, the NDC, who usually record few votes in Asanteman, has been spearheading the proper infrastructure development of Asanteman as the NPP, who gets its votes from here, have turned their back at us. This injustice must stop”, he warned.
