Some daring young men who flaunted guns and cash on a video that has gone viral and sparked public anger with speculations they could be armed robbers have been grabbed by the Ashanti Regional Police Command and placed under lock and key.
The three suspects, who are all siblings, are Alfred Dakorah, 43, Emmanuel Dakorah nicknamed as ‘Obour Billing’, 26 and Richard Suleman, 28 are helping with investigations into the origin of the guns, what the weapons may have been used for and whether or not they are licensed
One of the suspects, Obour Billing, has expressed wild anger over the speculations that they could be armed robbers.
He has therefore used eggs from locally bred fowls and hard liquor to invoke voodoo curses on the persons behind the robbery allegations and speculations.
Obour explained further that the pistols and short guns they were seen displaying in the video were weapons they seized from a gang that attacked them while they were guarding a galamsey (illegal small scale) mining site at Wa in the Upper West Region.
Obour said while he and his team were on guard at the galamsey site, they were attacked by another team and that although the attackers were having guns, his team over-powered the attackers and they left behind the guns they came with and fled.
Obour Billing did not tell how his team used their bare hands to overpower another team that had guns.
He explained further that the pump action gun in the video however belongs to his elder brother and that it is a licensed weapon.
Obour said his brother was not aware that the said pump action gun had been used for such a video.
Interestingly, the arrested suspects could only produce the licensed pump action gun but not even one of the other guns.
The police has taken custody of the pump action.
The police also found five empty cartridges on the suspects, who have since been sent to the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi for questioning.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Agyeman Adjem, has also announced that police are seriously hunting for a fourth suspect in the case.
Addressing the media in Kumasi on Friday, he said the three suspects were apprehended at Gausu, a suburb of the mining town of Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing the media in the Ashanti Region, Deputy Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Agymang Adjem, said: “These young men have been variously described as robbers in both the print and radio, as well as on social media”.
“These three men are in our custody, in relation to the video and pictures we have seen”, he said.
He noted: “We have retrieved the pump-action gun, as you can see”.
“There is a fourth suspect who we are trying to also arrest”, he announced.
The Deputy Commander said: “We will keep them in custody as we investigate the issue”, adding: “They have denied, as you have seen in other videos, that they are … criminals, and, so, the Command would like to appeal to anybody, for that matter the public, especially those who allege any criminal activity against these young men, to come forward, give us information so that we can put them before the court.”
According to him, the police wants swift prosecution of the case, therefore he was appealing passionately to those that have fallen prey to the suspects to come and report.
“The Regional Command wishes to appeal to the general public, especially anyone who has alleged crime against the suspects or might have fallen victim to these persons to kindly report to the Regional Police Command to assist”.
