UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has announced the appointment of Hanna Serwah Tetteh as Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya.
Madam Tetteh succeeds Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde who has been appointed as Special Representative to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU).
The 2008 presidential campaign and the role she played in managing the National Democratic Congress(NDC)’s communication strategy for that election made her a more prominent political figure and she became one of the main spokespersons for the party.
She recently served in the erstwhile John Mahama government as Foreign Affairs Minister.
Madam Tetteh served as Minister for Trade and Industry from 2009 to 2013 under former President John Atta Mills and Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2017 during President John Mahama’s tenure.
A practising lawyer, she holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana.
She was also the Member of Parliament for the Awutu-Senya West constituency in the Central Region.
